The Sonnfeld is a family-run feel-good hotel in Hinterstoder, in the 360° Alpenland holiday region of Upper Austria. You stay in lovingly furnished rooms – each with its own balcony and a view of the Totes Gebirge mountains.
Our house is made for everyone who consciously seeks peace and quiet: couples, adults and solo travellers. With a maximum of 30 guests at a time, there is always time for a chat, a wine recommendation or – once a week for our hotel guests – a tour of our own distillery.

Our restaurant is exclusively for hotel guests. In the kitchen, Alois, Alex and Angela cook traditional dishes from fresh, seasonal ingredients – and make a point of wasting as little food as possible.
4-course choice menu
Salad and starters from the buffet, soup, a choice of three main courses – one vegetarian every day –, dessert and cheese board. In summer, in fine weather, on the panorama terrace.

Certified sommelière Marina has put together a small, fine selection of top Austrian wines and is happy to advise you at the table.

The first documented mentions of our distillery date back to 1941. Today our traditional copper still produces fruit brandies, spirits, liqueurs and our Alpengin – distilled, bottled, labelled and signed entirely by hand.

What does the gourmet half board include?
A generous breakfast buffet (7:45–10:00 am) and a 4-course choice menu in the evening (6:00–7:30 pm): salad and starters from the buffet, soup, a choice of three main courses – one vegetarian every day –, dessert and cheese board. Once a week there is a gala dinner and, in summer and in fine weather, a barbecue evening on the panorama terrace. Unfortunately we cannot offer vegan dishes.
How far is the Hinterstoder Höss ski area?
About a 5-minute drive. On request, a free ski bus takes you to the ski area in the morning and back in the afternoon.
When is the hotel open?
In the winter season from December to April and in the summer season from May to October.
What is the Pyhrn-Priel AktivCard?
A free guest card that you receive on arrival and that is valid from May to October for your entire stay – with the Höss and Wurzeralm mountain railways, the toll road up to the Höss, public transport, museums, swimming pools and much more.
When are check-in and check-out?
Check-in from 2:00 to 6:00 pm, check-out by 10:00 am. If you arrive after 6:00 pm, we would appreciate a short message. Online check-in saves you time at reception.
Who is the Sonnfeld particularly suited to?
Adults, couples and solo travellers who consciously seek peace and quiet. The wellness area is open to guests aged 16 and over.
Does the hotel have its own distillery?
Yes. The first documented mention of the Sonnfeld distillery dates from 1941. It produces fruit brandies, spirits, liqueurs and the multi-award-winning Alpengin. Once a week, hotel guests visit the distillery free of charge.
Are pets allowed?
Unfortunately not – pets are not permitted at Hotel Sonnfeld. Thank you for your understanding.
Can I arrive by electric car?
Yes. You can charge at our EV charging stations for a fee; you receive the activation card at reception. Parking right at the hotel is free.
